The process of pretending builds skills in many essential developmental areas. Your children are actively experimenting with the social and emotional roles of life.

Through cooperative play, they learn how to take turns, share responsibility, and creatively problem-solve. Children reenact their experiences in the adult world and begin to make sense of it when they pretend.

Pretend play will evolve as your child matures.  It’ll begin with they play with objects as they are meant to be used, such as a car on the floor, a toothbrush in their mouth, or a spoon to feed the baby. By age two, your child will use objects to build new things such as cardboard (to build a fort) or blocks (to build a house). By age three they’ll be in full dramatic play, with roles for people to play, and emotions to share.  (A word of caution ... Your child will mimic what they hear! Be mindful!)

Kids learn about the world through pretend play. Open-ended and pretend play sets are just the tools they need to help them accomplish this! It is often said that play is the most important work of early childhood. As grown-ups, we provide imaginative and pretend play items that encourage children to discover their world in their own way.

This selection of toys makes it easy to gift toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, and elementary age children toys that will help them think creatively.

These are our best pretend play items! They are tried, tested, and true! We love toys that will grow with your child as they develop more independence and skills. Pretend play toys open up the imagination. We love watching children create fun scenarios, develop stories, and act them out for us!
